A Bay Area couple is offering a $1,000 reward for the safe return of two tiny stuffed animals.

Christoper Ferreira and his girlfriend purchased the toy bears two years ago for $10 during a trip to Japan. Since then, they have made videos of the bears, photographed them, bathed them, and written about their likes and dislikes.

"They're like family for us," said Ferreira. "I know that sounds totally ludicrous, but it's true."

Ferreira says he believes the bears may have fallen out of his girlfriend's purse on Jan. 24 when they went to see a movie at the Bay Street Mall in Emeryville.

They have launched a website and blog devoted to the toys' safe return.
