Gonzalez is a hard-throwing lefty who struggles with consistency. You are never quite sure which Gonzalez you will get; he gave up 11 runs in less than three innings against the Twins last July.
He went down to the minors and came back and finished strong with 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the Angels in September.
Gonzalez says the key for him is keeping it simple -- don't overanalyze how to pitch.
"Sometimes we would just throw the pitch, we didn't care who was up to bat and just out there and get the outs," Gonzalez said. "And it started clicking at the end of the season where little by little you start building your confidence, but again its 90 percent mental, 10 percent physical."
