Drunk teen rescued from Sunnyvale school roof

SUNNYVALE, CA

The rescue efforts began shortly after 3 a.m. when Sunnyvale police got a call about a possible burglary in progress at Cherry Chase Elementary School.

Once police surrounded the perimeter, they spotted a group of teens climbing off the roof; still up there was an extremely intoxicated girl, who wasn't responding to officers' questions. Paramedics got her onto a backboard and off the roof. She has been transported to a hospital for medical care.

"We're glad it's not a burglary, but they're still doing something that's dangerous and they shouldn't be doing in the first place. The girl could have walked off the roof, we are concerned for their safety," said Sunnyvale Dept. of Pub. Safety Lt. Scott McDowell.

Turns out the teens were camping on the roof and drinking. There were five boys and two girls ages 14 to 18.

Police called parents to pick up their children. They were cited for trespassing, and possibly underage drinking.
