The research from the University of Wisconsin ranks Marin County the healthiest county in California. It's followed closely by Santa Clara and San Mateo counties in the top five.
Contra Costa and Alameda Counties also rank in the top half of the state.
Researchers say people in the healthier counties generally were less likely to smoke, experienced fewer premature deaths, and had more options to buy healthy foods.
