Student group collects 1,000 pairs of jeans for Haiti

BERKELEY, CA

Cal Do Something, a local branch of the national collegiate organization Do Something, teamed up with more than 30 student groups on campus for a week of relief efforts for Haiti.

They collected the jeans as part of the national "Jeans for Teens" campaign, which aims to raise awareness about teen homelessness.

"When news broke of the recent events in Haiti, we wanted to provide an alternative to donating money," Cal Do Something spokeswoman Linda Pham said.

Clothing store Aeropostale is sending the jeans to Haiti, and a store manager in San Francisco has agreed to match the jeans collected by Cal Do Something.

The jeans collected by UC Berkeley students weigh more than a ton, according to Pham.
