CAL FIRE to begin wild land safety inspections

Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit is urging all residents and property owners in wild land areas to abate fire hazards now to reduce the threat of wildfire around homes during the upcoming fire season. Cal Fire will begin safety compliance inspections April 1.

According to the state fire agency, heavy rainfall through winter months is helping to produce thick and tall grass in rural areas, which can result in fast-moving wildfires that are difficult and dangerous to control.

Clearing weeds and brush away from structures, cleaning out gutters and trimming tree limbs that come within 10 feet of roofs or chimneys are some of the necessary steps to protect homes and property in case of fire.

For a complete fire prevention checklist homeowners should go to the Cal Fire Web site, www.fire.ca.gov.

Anyone with questions can call Cal Fire at (408) 778-8623.
