Pot expo comes to Cow Palace

Medical marijuana advocates will hold a convention at the Cow Palace next month despite a Daly City law that bans new pot dispensaries.

Organizers insist no pot will be sold during the International Cannabis and Hemp Expo on April 17 and 18.

Patients can bring their own medical marijuana to the Cow Palace, but they will need to show valid prescriptions before they can enter a designated, outdoor smoking area.

"We are putting lots of procedures in place and whatnot to be sure that the laws are met," says Cow Palace CEO Joe Barkett.

Daly City's City Council agreed to the 45-day pot dispensary moratorium on March 22, but city officials emphasize the state owns the Cow Palace and that local law has no bearing over the facility.
