A contractor surveying the cliff in the 300 block of Esplanade Avenue, where residents were forced to evacuate due to severe erosion late last year, noticed the body shortly after 8 a.m. and called police, Capt. Fernando Realyvasquez said.
He said it is not yet known whether the body is male or female.
He also declined to speculate about whether the body could belong to a 44-year-old man who disappeared into the ocean after being knocked down by waves at Sharp Park Beach on March 18.
"It's a big ocean and it's hard to say," Realyvasquez said.
