Coroner performs autopsy on body found on beach

PACIFICA, CA

The body, that of a male, was discovered shortly after 8 a.m. on the beach below the 300 block of Esplanade Avenue, Pacifica police Capt. Fernando Realyvasquez said.

That is the same block where residents were forced to evacuate late last year due to severe erosion along the cliff.

Though the body remains unidentified, Realyvasquez said it's possible it is that of a 44-year-old man who disappeared into the ocean earlier this month after getting knocked down by waves.

San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said the body appeared to have been in the water for weeks and was found in the "advanced stages of decomposition."
