San Pablo homes flooded after fire hydrants struck

SAN PABLO, CA

It happened shortly after 10 on Wednesday night on Yuba Avenue and Alpine Road.

Fire officials say water from one of the two hydrants was gushing out at the rate of up to 3,000 gallons a minute and crews say one of the hydrants was gushing water so fast, they couldn't do a normal shutdown.

The East Bay Municipal Utility District was called in to help, but the water had already flooded two homes and poured down the street.

Authorities are still investigating the cause.
