A Canadian man who was arrested this month for allegedly going to Gilroy to have sex with an underage girl is expected to enter a plea in Santa Clara County Superior Court on Tuesday on five felony charges.

Michael DeBruyn, 24, was arrested April 11 after the parents of a 17-year-old girl called police at about 7:15 a.m. to report a suspicious man near their home.

A preliminary investigation determined DeBruyn has allegedly exchanged sexually graphic text messages and photos with the 17-year-old girl for the past two months and has had online contact with her for the past four years, according to Gilroy police.

DeBruyn is a resident of Wallaceburg, Ontario, and is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

While on military leave, DeBruyn rode his motorcycle to California to have sex with the girl, according to police. Officers also found him to be in possession of child pornography.

DeBruyn has been charged with one count of employing, persuading or inducing a minor's involvement in modeling, posing or performing sexual conduct; one count of possessing, publishing, producing matter depicting a person under age 18 engaging in or simulating sexual conduct; one count of contacting and communicating, and attempting to contact and communicate, with a minor with knowledge and intent to commit specified crime; one count of distributing, or exhibiting harmful matter to a minor by any means; and one count of possessing or controlling matter depicting a person under age 18 engaging in or simulating sexual conduct.

He is being held at Santa Clara County main jail.
