Texting is becoming the most popular means of communication for young people.

The Pew Internet and American Life Project says a third of US teens with cell phones send more than 100 texts a day.

Texting is so much a part of teenager's life that 87 percent of those who text say they sleep with or next to their phone.

The study's authors say texting, unlike phone calls, can be done quietly without parents or teachers knowing and can be done almost anywhere.
