8 injured in 19th Ave. crash

SAN FRANCISCO

Police Officer Samson Chan said a gold Ford Taurus was heading south on 19th Avenue when it ran a red light at Taraval Street at about 4:20 p.m., crashed into a vehicle in the intersection and then jumped the median, striking four other cars heading north on 19th.

Nineteenth Avenue was closed in both directions at Taraval Street but has since reopened. "At 6 p.m., it was flowing clearly," Chan said.

He said the driver of the Taurus is an elderly man and that police are investigating whether he suffered a medical problem prior to the crash.

Eight people were transported to the hospital after the crash, according to Chan, who said the Taurus' driver suffered life-threatening injuries.
