Rainy weather saves San Jose redwood tree

SAN JOSE, CA

The city's Planning Department had issued a permit to the YMCA on Quito Road, allowing it to cut down two 70-foot tall redwood trees. San Jose's website indicated the roots are causing a wheelchair accessible path to buckle.

Now the city and the YMCA say that permit was a mistake; only one tree was supposed to be cut down.

Neighbors say they were notified in December the tree was diseased.

The Planning Department is now in the process of issuing a new permit for just one tree.
