Santa Clara County sets juvenile hall age limit

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA

Supervisors voted on Tuesday to establish a minimum age limit for juvenile hall.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, supervisors want judges and probation officers to find other ways to deal with kids younger than 13.

Those options could include home-based supervision, foster care, and community-based treatment centers.

Experts say sending young kids to juvenile hall fuels criminal behavior, by exposing them to older, more hardened teens.
