Russell Perdock was the second in command, but off-duty, when he drove his powerboat a reported 50 mph at night into a sailboat, killing a woman on the sailboat.
The I-Team found several people who reported Perdock was drinking at a bar before the crash, yet the Lake County district attorney charged the man at the helm of the sailboat with the passenger's death, he was later acquitted.
Perdock has now lost his job after an internal affairs investigation, but the sheriff's department is not saying why he was fired.
