The biggest cycling race in the nation comes to the Bay Area Monday.

Stage one of the Amgen Tour of California began Sunday, going from Nevada City to Sacramento.

Lance Armstrong is competing. He finished second overall last year. Santa Rosa native Levi Leipheimer won last year, his third title.

The riders left Davis at 11 a.m. Monday and will arrive in Santa Rosa Monday afternoon. On Thursday, the course runs from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. Wednesday's leg begins in San Jose and ends in Modesto.

The tour will make its way down the state and finish on May 23 in Thousand Oaks. The entire race covers more than 800 miles.
