State mammogram program impacted by cuts

SACRAMENTO, CA

The program funds mammograms for low-income and uninsured women through the California Department of Public Health.

Budget cuts made in January were expected to reduce the number of women getting the procedures to about $2,100 a month, but the state says fewer than 10,000 women a month are getting care.

Health officials argue the numbers are incomplete, because health providers have until next year to bill the state.
