Talks end between teachers union, school board

OAKLAND, CA

The union announced Monday that it would not continue bargaining.

Oakland teachers staged a one-day walkout earlier this month after the district imposed a contract on them. The two sides have been negotiating for two years in a dispute over wages and class sizes.

The district faces an $85 million budget shortfall. Oakland's teachers are the lowest paid in Alameda County.

There are no plans to go back to the bargaining table.
