Two-alarm fire displaces 2 residents

EAST PALO ALTO, CA

The fire was reported at 2:05 p.m. at a single-story home in the 2000 block of University Avenue, Schapelhouman said.

Firefighters responded within minutes and controlled the fire at 2:28 p.m., he said.

The blaze originated in the attic and appeared to have been started accidentally by some sort of construction project at the home, according to Schapelhouman.

He said the fire caused at least $100,000 in damage to the structure of the home, as well as at least $15,000 to its contents.

No injuries were reported. The two residents of the home planned to seek shelter with family living nearby, he said.

The fire briefly caused the closure of both northbound lanes of University Avenue. Traffic headed toward the Dumbarton Bridge was detoured onto alternate streets until the lanes were reopened at about 4:30 p.m., Schapelhouman said.
