Berkeley police investigate fatal shooting Thursday night

BERKELEY, CA

Officers responded to King Street, just south of 62nd Street, at about 6:30 p.m. on reports of multiple shots fired and found a man suffering at least one gunshot wound. Berkeley police spokesman Andrew Frankel said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made and a suspect description was not immediately available. "The investigation is still in its infancy," Frankel said tonight.

Frankel said the shooting marks the second homicide in the city this year. There were a total of nine homicides in Berkeley in 2009.
