BART's new police chief promises new era

OAKLAND, CA

BART officials released a statement Wednesday announcing a "new era of change" with the hiring of Fairfield's former police chief and said this morning's uniformed trip will be an example of Rainey's commitment to the goals laid out by public opinion and the BART Police Department Review Committee.

"Going Forward," Rainey said in a statement, "my immediate goals are to improve public safety and increase police visibility on the trains, strengthen and empower out organizational leaders so they can work toward making BART the safest metropolitan system possible."

Rainey invited the media and the public to join him as he rides BART to his second day on the job from Richmond Station to El Cerrito Plaza Station at around 5:45 a.m.
