Witnesses sought in mall parking lot shooting

SAN MATEO, CA

No one has been arrested in connection with the June 9 murder of 54-year-old David Lewis outside the Hillsdale Shopping Center, but detectives believe there are witnesses who haven't yet contacted police or who may remember something after hearing of the investigation.

San Mateo police Sgt. David Norris declined to release details of the investigation because he doesn't want to compromise the case.

"They're still working on leads," he said.

In the meantime, friends and family have scheduled a memorial for Lewis for 2 p.m. Sunday at Costano Elementary School at 2695 Fordham St. in East Palo Alto.

A 5 p.m. community dinner will follow at the East Palo Alto nonprofit Free At Last, which Lewis co-founded. The organization's services include substance abuse treatment and transitional housing.

The nonprofit is located at 1796 Bay Road. Both the memorial and dinner are open to the public, according to the organization.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7700, the investigations unit at (650) 522-7650 or the Police Department's secret witness tip line at (650) 522-7676.

Those with information can also text an anonymous tip to (650) 262-3473 or e-mail the tip to sanmateo@tipnow.org.
