Practice and qualifying races took place on Friday at Infineon Raceway.
Jeff Gordon, the Vallejo native, came back home and is currently seventh on the points list. His qualifying speed is 93.4 mph -- good for fifth place.
Casey Kahne won this race last year and earned the pole position on Friday with a speed of 93.893 mph for his qualifying speed.
David Ragan had his problems on the road course crashing into the barrier and qualified 42nd. Ragan knows starting at the back of the pack at Infineon can be rough.
"Track position is so important and so from the start of the green flag on Sunday, we'll kind of do the race backwards, where whenever we see that we can make it the rest of the way, we'll stop, even if it's on the green and try to get that track position, so Friday is very important," says Ragan.
Infineon is one of only two road courses on the circuit.
