CA motorcylists participate in 'Ride To Work Day'

SACRAMENTO, CA

There are more than 1 million licensed riders in the state of California doing their part to help conserve precious resources like fuel and parking spaces.

On Monday, Bay Area police agencies asked all drivers to be a little more careful and keep an eye out for motorcyclists.

"There's so much going on inside the car, whether talking on the cell phone, texting, eating... Things like that. We really hope that with Ride To Work Day people get a little bit more focused on one thing, driving," said Ty Van Hooydon with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Motorcyclists are also urged to be extra careful Monday by wearing a helmet and protective clothing.

Even experienced bikers are encouraged to brush up on their skills by taking a basic safety course such as one offered by the California Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
