Mehserle is accused of killing BART rider Oscar Grant at the Fruitvale Station on New Year's Day 2009.
The defense said that they could be resting their case as soon as tomorrow or Wednesday and it could go to the jury later in the week.
Bay Area law enforcement officials are getting ready for any kind of disturbances that may happen when the verdict is announced. Earlier in the year, the trial was moved to Los Angeles.
On Monday, attorney Michael Raines will be calling the pathologist who conducted the autopsy on Grant.
Mehserle took the stand on Friday and broke down in tears, as he tried to talk about the shooting and he said he meant to pull his Taser instead of his gun.
A spectator was arrested for interrupting the proceedings as he told Mehserle to 'save his tears.'
Grant's mother stormed out of court as well.
"It was not necessary. He was not resisting, but yet he shot him in the back. It was murder, it was not an accident," she said.
In preparation for the verdict, police have been preparing for crowd control and when the jury begins deliberations, officers will be on stand-by and they are being told there are no vacations during that time.
Police departments are also prepared to send reminders via Facebook and Twitter to get a heads up of any big gatherings.
After Grant was killed, there were disturbances and riots, and police is trying to avoid it doesn't repeat again.
