Passport prices to rise mid-July

Passports are days away from getting a hefty price increase.

Starting July 13 a U.S. passport will cost about 30 percent more for adults and 20 percent more for kids.

The U.S. Department of State says the higher fees will cover rising costs.

Here's the breakdown: the price for an adult passport, now $100, will increase to $135. For children under 16, the price goes from $85 now to $105.

The passport cards -- which get you to Canada or Mexico and back -- will be $55 for adults, a $10 increase, and $40 for kids, which is $5 higher.
