Police are cautioning residents in Palo Alto to close their windows even during warm summer nights after a home was burglarized over the weekend while the occupants slept.

The burglars broke into a home in the 1500 block of Hamilton Avenue sometime between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The suspects entered through an open side window and grabbed a television and other electronics. They made off with the items in the the family's 1998 tan Toyota Sienna minivan without waking the family, police said.

The home had an alarm system but it was not activated, police said. In addition to keeping windows closed at night, police are urging residents to activate installed alarm systems and ensure that exterior lighting and other deterrents are in working order.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Detective Brian Philip at (650) 329-2408 or send anonymous tips to paloalto@tipnow.org.
