A 39-year-old man was injured Thursday night when he veered his bicycle into the path of a van on Farmer's Lane in Santa Rosa, police said.

Luis Garcia, of Santa Rosa, is in critical condition this morning at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Katy Hillenmeyer said.

Garcia suffered severe head trauma and facial injuries in the accident, according to police. He is suspected of having consumed alcohol before the accident, Sgt. David Linscomb said.

Garcia was riding his bike north on Farmers Lane near the intersection with Vallejo Street around 9:20 p.m.

His bike struck a van driven by a 46-year-old Santa Rosa man. Police said the driver is not suspected of speeding or drinking alcohol.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Officer Matthew Sanchez at (707) 543-3600.
