SFPD chief helps patrol Oakland streets

SAN FRANCISCO

Gascon and a squad of San Francisco officers were placed in charge of keeping the peace in a small section of downtown Oakland.

It turned out to be quiet where they were, but they were ready to go elsewhere if necessary.

"In my estimation people have been peaceful in venting their frustration; unfortunately a small handful of people are doing damage to the community," Gascon said.

Gascon told ABC7 that he did not want the officers he dispatched to Oakland to be on their own, so he went with them.
