South San Francisco police arrested a man believed to have robbed a 7-Eleven wielding a kitchen knife early Friday morning.

Officers responded to a reported robbery at the convenience store located at 1136 Mission Road at about 1:15 a.m., according to the South San Francisco Police Department.

The store employee told officers that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask had entered the store wielding a kitchen knife.

The suspect, later identified as 51-year-old South San Francisco resident Anthony Fernandezees, demanded money from the cash register and the employee complied. The suspect fled the area on foot.

Responding officers were able to obtain a description of Fernandezees from witness accounts and footage of the store's video surveillance. In a search of the area, Fernandezees was reportedly found close to 7-Eleven with a kitchen knife tucked into the side of his belt.

He was also carrying cash believed to have been the money stolen from the store.

Fernandezees was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and booked into county jail.
