Back to school summer savings ideas

The sales you find now can be some of the biggest of the year -- sometimes in the thousands of dollars.

"Summer can be a fantastic time to buy a laptop. The prices that you'll find are even better than those that happen during the holiday shopping season," said Janet Siroto of Good Housekeeping.

Renting is a good option when looking for text books. Good Housekeeping says sites like chegg.com and bookrenter.com can save you hundreds of dollars. But when it comes to musical instruments, buying second hand instruments may be the best cost saving option.
