Giants announcer inducted into Hall of Fame

COOPERSTOWN, NY

Miller was the winner of the Ford C. Frick award and was inducted into the Hall on Sunday. The Hayward native spoke about one of his first baseball memories, visiting Candlestick Park in 1962. He says as a 10-year-old kid then, he was more infatuated with the broadcasters than the players.

"At that first game, we sat in the upper deck on the first base side at the stick. And I was using my binoculars looking into the broadcast booth looking at Russ and Lon more than the players on the field," said Miller.

His interest in legendary Giants broadcasters Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons helped pave the way. Jon Miller was also the announcer for the Baltimore Orioles from 1983 until 1996.

Earlier in his career, he called games for the Oakland A's, Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox.
