Golden Gate Bridge west walkway to close for construction

The walkway across the Golden Gate Bridge is about to get more crowded.

Seismic retrofit work will force the west-side walkway to close -- that's the one used by bicycle riders.

It means pedestrians will have to share the east-side walkway and that bicyclists may have to walk their bikes across the bridge.

The project is to retrofit the bridge's main anchorage. Work starts in November and should last about four months.
