Fire officials are investigating a suspicious fire that seriously damaged a home in Richmond early this morning, Richmond fire Chief Michael Banks said today.

The fire was reported at 3:45 a.m. at a home at 882 S. 46th St.

Firefighters arrived three minutes later and found fire in the front and rear of the home, Banks said.

They had the blaze under control by 4:05 a.m., Banks said.

The homeowner was out of town visiting relatives and the residence was empty when the fire started, Banks said.

No injuries were reported, but the house was extensively damaged.

Arson investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, but it appears to be suspicious, Banks said.
