49ers scoff at Newsom's claim they're shovel ready

SAN FRANCISCO

The mayor says the project is shovel ready, now that the Board of Supervisors has given final approval to the Hunters Point redevelopment project.

"Every promise we've made to the 49ers has been kept and we delivered it. We've also delivered a partner that will put up a $100 million and if they wanted building permits, they can get them and we can Fast-track them and they can start construction in the immediate future," said Newsom.

"The project from our prospective is not shovel ready unless the shovel comes with roads and freeway access and public transportation and all the funds to finance that," says 49ers spokesperson Lisa Lang.

The 49ers are moving ahead with plans to build a new stadium in Santa Clara. Voters there approved a measure supporting it last month.
