Bomb squad searches San Jose mans home

SAN JOSE, CA

Police responded to a call received by the man's roommate who claimed he was manufacturing or in possession of an explosive device in his home in the 400 block of Avenida Robles at around 5:45 p.m., San Jose police Officer Jose Garcia said.

Around 20 to 30 residents in the South San Jose neighborhood were evacuated to Oak Grove Baptist Church at 479 Blossom Hill Road while police attempted to make contact with the alleged bomb-making suspect in his home, Garcia said.

Police were successful in their efforts, and the suspect complied with police demands and surrendered himself to custody for questioning at around 10:15 p.m.

Bomb squad team members were making entry to the home with a remote device to determine if explosives were actually in the suspect's possession at the time his roommate reported the incident.

Some evacuated residents were allowed to return home, though those immediately neighboring the suspect's home were asked to stay clear until the bomb squad had finished their investigation, which as of midnight was expected to last until late this morning, Garcia said.

No one has been injured in the investigation.
