5 arrested in check-cashing store robbery

SAN JOSE, CA

Police have identified the suspects as 30-year-old East Palo Alto resident Dawan McNair; 36-year-old San Francisco resident Nirran Wells; and 18-year-old Dennis Montgomery, 19-year-old Donzell De Marques Flie and 32-year-old Dynell Morgan, all of Oakland.

The armed robbery and shooting occurred on Tuesday afternoon, when two men entered a Check 'n Go store at 461 Blossom Hill Road and demanded money at gunpoint, police Officer Jose Garcia said.

During the robbery, one of the suspects shot an employee, a 23-year-old San Jose man.

The two suspects, along with three other men, then drove off with an undetermined amount of cash.

A patrol unit stopped their car near Jackson Avenue off of Interstate Highway 680, Garcia said. The suspects took off running in different directions, but they were all detained a short time later, he said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Another employee, a 27-year-old woman, was unharmed.

The suspects were booked into Santa Clara County's main jail on robbery, attempted murder and various other felony charges. District attorney's spokeswoman Amy Cornell said charges have been filed against the suspects and will be announced this afternoon.
