Three stranded climbers rescued near Big Sur

MONTERY COUNTY, CA

California State Park Rangers called in Monterey County Search and Rescue at 8:42 p.m. Friday to rescue three Texans vacationing in the area who could not climb back up from a beach area in Julia Pfeiffer State Park in Big Sur, the Sheriff's Office said.

A 22-year-old male had apparently led his two relatives, a 16-year-old female and a 13-year-old male, into a closed area of the park around 8 p.m. and down an 80-foot cliff to the beach where they became trapped, sheriffs said.

All three subjects were safely rescued and none were in need of medical attention, the Sheriff's Office said.
