Firefighters extinguished a 40-acre vegetation fire that broke out this afternoon in the Santa Teresa Foothills, a San Jose Fire Department dispatcher said.

Firefighters from the San Jose Fire Department and Cal Fire were dispatched to an area near Curie Drive and Cottle Road after a passerby reported the blaze at 2:09 p.m.

Cal Fire deployed 40 units to the scene, including two air tankers and three battalion chiefs. San Jose fire has released three engines, leaving approximately nine units to assist in containment efforts.

Officials said the two-alarm fire caused no injuries or structural damage, but is threatened homes on the hillside as the flames moved north.
