Boulder Creek man arrested on suspicion of arson

BOULDER CREEK, CA

Larry Bourdeau, a 64-year-old Boulder Creek resident, was arrested for allegedly setting fire to The Mountain Store, located at 125 Pool Drive, at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies and Boulder Creek firefighters responded to the store that night and found charred remains of a bulletin board attached to the front of the store, the sheriff's office said.

Surveillance video footage showed a bulletin board on fire and three teenage males extinguishing the flames around midnight, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies believe the store might have gone up in flames had it not been for the actions of the three teens, who have yet to be identified, the sheriff's office said.

The video allegedly captured Bourdeau setting fire to the bulletin board, the sheriff's office said.

Bourdeau was already in jail prior to the arson charge for allegedly dialing 911 on every pay telephone in Boulder Creek and leaving the phones off the hook early Tuesday, according to sheriff's Sgt. Dan Campos.

Bourdeau is also being held for violating probation stemming from a previous arson conviction in Santa Cruz in December 2008, Campos said.

He is being held in county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the identity of the teens who put out the fire is asked to contact the investigations division at (831) 454-2311.
