Exchange Bank robbery suspect arrested

SANTA ROSA, CA

Darrell Stafford, 49, turned himself in at about 10 p.m. Monday and was arrested for the Aug. 23 robbery, Sgt. Steve Fraga said.

Media coverage and the influence of family members and friends convinced Stafford to surrender, Fraga said.

At about 4:35 p.m. on Aug. 23, a man entered an Exchange Bank branch at 1300 Guerneville Road, presented a note indicating his intent to rob the bank and then escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Police obtained a $250,000 arrest warrant for Stafford, and search warrants were served at two Santa Rosa addresses - one on West College Avenue and another on Corby Avenue -- where evidence was found that implicated Stafford, police said.

The Exchange Bank offered a reward up to $5,000 for information that resulted in the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
