At about 1:45 p.m., the woman was driving west in the 200 block of Drummond Drive when she fell asleep, veered to her left and struck a 53-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son who were walking east on the sidewalk, police Lt. Roger Keener said.
After hitting the pedestrians, the SUV then continued and struck two trees and a mailbox, according to Keener.
The woman on the sidewalk suffered a broken leg and her son suffered abrasions and cuts, Keener said. They were both taken to Eden Medical Center for treatment.
The woman driving the car was also taken to a hospital as a precaution.
He said there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
