Two officers involved in shooting in Concord

CONCORD, CA

It all began at 2:30 Thursday morning, when the officers saw a man walking on Clayton Road and tried stopping him to talk. The officers believed he fit the description of a suspect who was wanted for some outstanding warrants for robbery.

But the suspect didn't stop -- instead he ran down Ashbury Street. Officers briefly chased him in their car, than jumped out. That's when investigators say he pulled out a gun, and the two officers fired their weapons at him.

The suspect, a man in his early 20s, was taken to John Muir Hospital. How many times he was shot and his condition are not being revealed yet. Neither officer was injured. Investigators say they're still confirming whether this man was indeed the robbery suspect they were searching for.

People passing through the area near downtown Concord will continue to see police activity on Clayton, blocking a portion of the right lane here. Plus Ashbury Street will remain closed until investigators have gathered all the evidence.
