A Petaluma woman suffered moderate injuries when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver this morning, a police sergeant said.

Cindy White, 53, was crossing Petaluma Boulevard from the southwest corner of the intersection of Petaluma Boulevard and D Street when a truck hit her from her left about 6:15 a.m., Sgt. Ken Savano said.

The truck, an older model white Ford pickup with a two-tone burgundy strip and a chrome bumper, was traveling east on D Street and turning right on Petaluma Boulevard South when it knocked White to the ground, Savano said.

A witness said the truck slowed down and then fled south on Petaluma Boulevard South, Savano said.

The pedestrian signal at the intersection was green for White and for eastbound traffic on D Street, Savano said. White had taken two steps from the sidewalk when she was hit, he said.

White suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Savano said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Officer Brent Walker at (707) 778-4455.
