Newsom calls for extended funding for jobs program

SAN FRANCISCO

Newsom says the federal money, which supports San Francisco's Jobs Now program and others like it nationwide, will run out a week from Thursday.

Newsom claims Senate Republicans are holding it up, and says unless something changes, 4,100 San Franciscans and thousands more nationwide will be out of work.

Newsom says he will continue pushing for the funding to continue. But just in case, the city announced Wednesday it will redirect $9 million in city money to help keep 1,700 Jobs Now workers employed.
