2 SJ City College students assaulted on campus

SAN JOSE, CA

The first assault occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 near the science complex, according to the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District Police Department.

The suspect involved in the assault is described as a possibly Hispanic or black man who is 6 feet tall and weighs between 250 and 300 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black or navy blue ski mask, a black windbreaker, dark pants, and white tennis shoes, police said.

He is possibly a transient, because his clothing was soiled and dirty, and the victim reported that he had a foul smell. He was last seen walking away from the parking lot of the science complex south towards Laswell Avenue, according to police.

The second attack occurred on Tuesday on the second floor of the campus parking garage.

At about 3:50 p.m., a female student was walking to her car when a man grabbed her sweatshirt from behind and swung her into a wall. He then grabbed the victim by her hips and pushed his body against hers, police said.

The victim was able to push him away and ran to her car. She did not call district police immediately, but called San Jose city police about two hours after the attack.

The suspect in the latest attack is described as a tan-skinned white or Hispanic man who is between 40 and 50 years old, about 6 feet tall, weighs between 180 to 200 pounds, and has short hair and wrinkled or "weathered" cheeks. He was wearing a white shirt and smelled strongly of cologne, police said.

The victim said the suspect did not look like a transient, but also thought he did not seem to be a student, according to police.

Investigators did not say whether the two attacks are connected.

Campus officials are warning students to use extreme caution when on campus in the early morning or late night hours, and to have a cell phone handy to report any suspicious activity or people.

People with information about the attacks should call district police at (408) 270-6468 after 7 a.m. every day.
