Novato man on vacation disappears in Fort Bragg

On Friday, Jennifer Reynoso reported that her fiance Michael O'Brien had been missing from the Emerald Dolphin Inn in Fort Bragg, in coastal Mendocino County, since the afternoon of Sept. 27, Fort Bragg police Capt. Brian Ballard said.

Police, along with the Fort Bragg Fire Department and the Mendocino County search-and-rescue team, have scoured beach areas near the motel, and a Cal Fire helicopter searched the coast on Monday.

Some of O'Brien's personal property was found during a ground search of Pomo Bluffs Park near a cliff edge overlooking Noyo Bay, Ballard said.

Ballard said the couple had not argued, and it apparently was not unusual for O'Brien to disappear for a few days.

If O'Brien fell into the ocean, the rough surf and high winds along the coast could carry him far to the north, Ballard said.

O'Brien is white, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and is believed to have been wearing blue jeans and tan hiking boots when he disappeared, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (707) 961-2800.
