Caltrain expected to raise fares and cut service

The plan calls for a seven percent fare hike which means commuters would have to pay 25 cents more per zone.

A trip between San Francisco and San Jose would go up by 75 cents to $8.50.

Four weekday trains would also be cut from the schedule -- leaving Caltrain with only hourly service between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The changes are part of a plan to balance Caltrain's $100 million budget, and would take effect in January.

Despite all the proposed cuts, a report out Wednesday revealed Caltrain executives have still been getting hefty pay raises.
