The apparently gang-related shooting was reported at about 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 1. Jaime Esteban Guerrero, a 20-year-old Seaside resident, and another man, age 21, were shot while standing near a car in the 100 block of Key Street, according to police.

The second victim is still recovering from his injuries at a local hospital.

At about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, investigators served three search warrants in connection with the case. The warrants were served in the 800 block of St. George Circle, the 200 block of Dennis Avenue, and the 18600 block of Coolidge Street, police said.

While serving the warrant on Dennis Avenue, several people tried to flee. Officers were able to detain all but one of the suspects in the backyard.

Jesse Estrada Diaz, 19, was booked into Monterey County jail on suspicion of homicide, attempted homicide, conspiracy, violation of probation, and gang enhancements, according to police.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested and booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of homicide, attempted homicide, conspiracy and gang enhancements.

The suspect who escaped the backyard, Jesse Herrero, fled to the roof of a neighboring house but was eventually caught by officers. Herrero was arrested for an outstanding warrant and booked into county jail, police said.
